The Mullins laboratory uses the techniques of molecular, computational and virus biology to provide basic insights into the HIV-human host relationship. Our goals are to assist the fight against AIDS by gaining insight into the establishment of infection and the development of the disease in order to assist creation of effective vaccines and to refine therapies. Current efforts utilize a variety of techniques to define and understand the implications of HIV's extraordinary evolutionary rate and ensuing genetic diversity in an effort to define host-virus relationships and generate and evaluate vaccines. These techniques include virology, molecular biological and statistical analysis of nucleotide sequences. He collaborates with Drs. Corey, Frenkel, Melvin, and McElrath.

ResearchWe use a variety of techniques to understand the implications of HIV's extraordinary genetic diversity for the pathogenesis of AIDS, and apply this information to the development of more effective therapies and vaccines. Current intensive research topics include:
[*]Computational Methods for HIV Research
[*]HIV Pathogenesis
[*]Pathogenesis Intervention using Antiretrovial Therapy (ART)
[*]Primary HIV-1 Infection
[*]Vaccine Design
