近日，韩国籍中东呼吸综合征(MERS)患者进入到广东惠州引起社会高度关注，MERS病毒于2012年在中东发现，并引起了全球科学家的关注，其不同于埃博拉的接触式传播，与其“表亲”SARS一样，是通过空气传播的。MERS与SARS均属于同一个β冠状病毒属，而且均属于C亚型；感染后也会出现发烧、呼吸衰竭，有时伴有肾衰竭等类似症状。数据统计表明，MERS致死率远高于SARS的10%，达到37%（中国疾控中心公布数据为27%）以上，但该病毒传播速度并不快。

据世卫组织公开数据，截至5月中旬，3年来MERS病毒在全球20多个国家累计感染1100多例患者。目前国际上尚未有证据表明，该病毒可以在人群中广泛传播，大多是接触动物或医院内密切接触感染。
